Elsewhere, UNIFI launched REPREVE with CiCLO technology in April 2025 — a recycled polyester and nylon fiber enhanced with biodegradable properties, enabling synthetic fibers to naturally break down in soil and seawater and reduce microplastic pollution. And in August 2025, Sangam (India) Limited acquired a Recycled Polyester Staple Fibre manufacturing unit for USD 5.9 million to secure a reliable supply of recycled polyester covering roughly half its daily fiber requirement.

Raw Material Volatility Remains a Persistent Challenge

A key challenge facing the industry is the fluctuating cost of raw materials. Polyester production relies heavily on petroleum-derived inputs such as purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG), and volatility in global crude oil prices directly affects the availability and pricing of these feedstocks, increasing production costs and complicating supply chain planning.

Earlier, in January 2025, Ambercycle partnered with Benma to scale production of cycora circular polyester fibers, strengthening sustainable fiber capabilities and expanding availability of high-quality circular fibers.

With sustainability now a central pillar of product strategy across the industry, the polyester fiber market’s growth story over the next several years will likely be defined less by raw production volume and more by the pace of the shift toward recycled and bio-based inputs.
