What Your Personality Says About Your Weight?

If you are the kind of person who loves to party recklessly and eat anything that comes onto your plate, you are surely thought to be someone who may not be bothered about weight gain. Because people who want to maintain a healthy body weight are often seen as conscious about their lifestyle and eating habits. On the other hand, it is considered normal to lose or put on some extra pounds sometimes. Several reasons are behind this fluctuation in weight. Often you may have to face body shaming also.

Personality Traits

It appears that personality influences both the choice of foods and the likelihood of changing one’s diet. Personality traits are broadly classified into five categories.

  1. Conscientiousness: The personality of such people indicates discipline and organised behaviour. They aim to maintain their weight by mindful eating and target to consume healthy items. They stick to their fitness regime and often have a timed diet. They are also capable of trying different diet plans. This may lead to overly conscientiousness about food and may lead to a rigid lifestyle. Such people are often under constant stress because they may be too judgemental about their eating plans and habits.
  2. Openness: People who belong to this category of personality trait are supposed to be adventurous and experimental. They are always willing to try novel methods. This directly impacts their desire to consume different varieties of food and try new cuisines. Such habits can adversely impact their diet as they may end up eating high-calorie foods that may contribute to weight gain. Such people should try to create a balance between their openness to try new food items and physical activity like exercises so that they can harmonise their body weight.
  3. Agreeableness: People belonging to this personality category are empathetic, kind and compassionate. They believe in community interaction and cooperation. Hence, they indulge in group activities like fitness or dance classes and shared meals. But due to their trait of pleasing and agreeing with people, they may tend to overeat in public meetings. They should know to draw a boundary and say “no” to unhealthy eating habits.
  4. Extraversion: Extroverts are socially active people. They love to meet and make new friends. Such people engage in group activities like dance, aerobics, Zumba, etc. because they love to associate with people. But this nature can adversely impact their eating habits because they indulge in eating and drinking socially.
  5. Neuroticism: Such people often tend to experience negative emotions. They also feel depressed and anxious at times. These are tendencies that lead to unhealthy eating habits leading to weight gain. They may want to remain confined within their homes as they are usually introverted and do not like meeting or mixing with people.

Other Personality Traits

  • If you are a party person

Outings that are aimed at pleasure often force individuals to indulge in binge eating leading to weight issues.

  • Mood Swings

Mood swings can sometimes trigger impulsiveness and such a behaviour pattern can induce unnecessary eating. Your mood may be happy, excited, sad, depressed, or anxious and such extreme feelings can lead to unhealthy eating habits.

  • An Early Riser

Waking up early in the morning is a good habit as it helps to organise your day better with a proper eating schedule. Such a trait will aid in balancing weight. But you need to have a good night’s sleep to maintain a healthy lifestyle, so ensure that you sleep early to do justice to your sleep routine.

  • If you sleep late at night

Sleeping late at night or in the wee hours of the morning can impact your weight. As you are up late at night, you may experience hunger pangs and eat recklessly during late night hours. Moreover, you may bother less to consume healthy food at that time.

  • If you are self-centred

Well, in this case being self-centred can help you focus on your diet. You will consciously make healthy eating choices because you are overly concerned about yourself, your appearance, and your health.

Your eating habit is directly linked to your personality trait. Moreover, if you want to maintain an ideal weight with an envious waistline, you will eat right and healthy. You will focus on eating at the right time because timing also plays a pivotal role in weight management. Cosmetic treatments to manage weight reduction have become the latest fad and the tummy tuck procedure is one of the most popular treatments for weight management. It is advised to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon before going for such surgeries. Diet is an important part of weight management.
